How To Use Up Products You Regret Buying

We've all been there: having parted with our hard-earned pennies on a rave-reviewed product only to discover it broke us out, the lady behind the counter colour matched us ALL wrong, or it simply, wasn't quite what we expected. A bit like a Tindr date, the description charms us but the reality quickly disappoints and we're left with a tainted bottle of inefficacy that even our (equally-obsessed) fellow beauty buffs opt to pass up on.

But unlike a right swipe, skincare isn't free and most don't come cheap. So when your bank account can't bare the thought of throwing it away, what do we do with a product that failed to meet expectations?

My Boyfriend's Best Side Drawer

*Dear Niall, thank you for always being front row at my personal beauty hauls, for enduring the ocassional face mask but most importantly, for my own drawer.*

At what point is it acceptable to start leaving 'possessions' at your bf's? The first time I stayed over the boy's, (which was the first time I'd ever stayed over a boyfriend's house) was a naively unanticipated occasion in which I spent about an hour in the bathroom raiding the cupboards for something other than hand soap or his mum's expensive-looking skin care collection to remove my make up. I think I ended up finding a neglected-looking toner that in my drunken state I believed would work really well as a make up remover (it didn't).

Four years later though, and I have a designated drawer to house a pair of pyjamas, a toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, a razor and a bag full of skin care and make up that I've managed to whittle down to a fine edit of essentials that has me covered for most emergencies.

Drugstore Concealers: The Edit

When it comes to concealers, it's always the drugstore for me. The coverage and formulas on offer rival pretty much every high end concealer I've tried and when you take into account what you save, it's a no brainer. There are about four that I switch between, dependant on the flaw in question and what's on offer at Boots, so let's get stuck in.

Podcasts For The Beauty Obsessed

Commuting in and out of London every day means I dedicate around 2 hours to listening to podcasts. It's the only thing that keeps me sane whilst coming to terms with the fact I have been standing up for the past hour within a few feet of someone who thinks that clipping their nails is acceptable on public transport - and there's nothing like hearing a fellow beauty junkie chat about one of your biggest passions as a distraction from aforementioned flying clippings. So here's one for every day of the working week...

The Air Hostesses Guide to In-Flight Beauty

As much as I love heading somewhere exotic, the long haul flight takes it's toll on your skin. Low humidity and recycled air sets you up for a lack-lustre, dry complexion that can end up overcompensating with oil, leaving breakouts in its wake - just what you need when you're about to spend the next fortnight taking selfies on the beach. But spending 30-40 hours a week in mid-air, if there there is anyone who knows how to survive the skin ravaging conditions of the cabin, it's going to be an air hostess, right?

Flight attendants by day, beauty junkies by night, Mimi and Anoushka have been air hostesses for almost 20 years between them, sharing their high-fly lifestyles, travel tips and tried & tested in-flight beauty and skin care essentials over on their blogs Mimi Flys & Anoushka Loves; so ahead of my 14 hour flight to Thailand later this summer, I caught up with the girls to find out how I should be prepping, protecting and repairing my skin to survive the moisture hoover that is the cabin.
